The Violin Maker
Written by David Begg and to be directed by Brian Percival (The Book Thief), The Violin Maker is an emotional story about the power of music and the comfort of family.
Believing the life of his beloved late wife was filled with disappointment, an old man sets out from the North of England to the medieval city of Cremona in Northern Italy, determined to learn the art of violin making and fulfil his wife’s childhood dream of having an instrument made especially for her.
Men Of Steel
Men of Steel is the true story of one of the 20th century’s most iconic Scotsmen, Jimmy Reid, leader of the movement to save the Upper Clyde shipyards and the tens of thousands of families dependent upon them. In 1971/2 Jimmy led the Work-In which saved all the shipbuilders’ jobs and resulted in a £35 million investment by the UK government which had refused to spend £5 million and appointed a liquidator only a year earlier.
Reid was an extraordinary orator. The New York Times described his inaugural speech as Rector of Glasgow University as the “the greatest speech since President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address” and printed it verbatim.
Developed with the support of the BFI Film Fund and Creative Scotland, the screenplay has been written by David Chidlow and the film will be directed by David Hayman.
